Description
Robert Murray M'Cheyne (1813-1843) was a minister in the Church of Scotland from 1835 until his death at the age of 29, two months before the Disruption. He served in the parish of Larbert and Dunipace near Stirling as assistant to John Bonar and then at St Peter's in Dundee.
'Whether viewed as a son, a brother, a friend, or a pastor, often has the remark been made by those who knew him most intimately, that he was the most faultless and attractive exhibition of the true Christian which they had ever seen embodied in a living form. His great study was to be Christ-like. He was a man of remarkable singleness of heart. He lived but for one object - the glory of the Redeemer in connection with the salvation of immortal souls.'
'Additional Remains of the Rev. Robert Murray M'Cheyne', first published in 1846, consists of 64 sermons and 15 lectures delivered by him in the course of his ministry. The discourses were printed from his manuscript notes, ‘written as preparations for the pulpit, but not intended for publication, or revised by him with that view. The demand for their publication by members of his flock and other friends, many of whom own him as their spiritual father, has been loud and urgent. To all such the book will be acceptable, as helping "to stir up their pure minds by way of remembrance".' [Preface.]
